Chance To Learn Patois

A hands-on programme designed to build proficiency in speaking Patois will be launched next Wednesday, January 23.

Registration begins this week for the 12-week programme which fast-tracks learning by combining classroom sessions with practical experience.

The project-based course is structured to provide a total of 60 hours of language theory and 60 hours of immersion in Patois, including interaction with a Patois-speaking community.

The two-hour classroom sessions will be held on Wednesdays from 6.00 – 8.00 pm at the Lloyd Best Institute of the West Indies, 91C Tunapuna Road, Tunapuna. The three-hour hands-on sessions will take place on Saturdays from 10.00 am – 1.00 pm at the Paramin RC School.

The course runs from January 23 to April 13 and costs $500. It will be conducted by Richard Mendez and Nnamdi Hodge.

At the end, participants should be able to carry out a basic conversation in Patois and have an appreciation of a Patois community and its cultural practices.

For registration and additional information, interested persons can contact course co-ordinator Nnamdi Hodge at 771 4952.

The Patois course is a project of Caribbean Yard Campus.
